Since 1st October 1998, the European Union Working Time Regulations (93/104/EC) have been in force in the UK. The Work Time (Amendment) Regulations (2003) apply to offshore workers. It is one of the most comprehensive pieces of employment legislation ever to deal with working time and the provision of holidays. It is already proving a nightmare for employers, many of whom are uncertain of how it will affect them.
