This  is a surveillance technique to detect early damage to the hand and arm caused by regular and frequent exposure to high levels of vibration. It is estimated that 1.2 million workers are exposed to hazardous levels of vibration in their work. It is the most common of all diseases assessed by the DSS, with the majority of employees having up to 14% permanent disability. HAVS is a complex condition affecting the vascular, nervous and musculo-skeletal systems of the upper limbs, the hands in particular. HAVS is a prescribed industrial disease (Benefits Agency 1997) and affected workers may be entitled to industrial injuries benefit.

Ock Health offers this health surveillance assessment to help employers meet their obligations under:

  • The Health and Safety at Work Act (1974)
  • The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (1999)
  • The Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations (1992)
  • The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (1998)
